The Bulls Should Trade The #1 Pick

I'm kidding, but after reading Sam Smith's fresh Jermaine O'Neal trade suggestion (Hinrich has "great value"? Ben Gordon will get paid a lot? Tyrus Thomas is an athletic throw-in? Perpetually injured J.O. is worth players not named Larry Hughes or Andres Nocioni? Come on.), I have serious doubts that any offseason advice given to the Bulls will contain even microscopic amounts of sanity. Well, Sam did say the Bulls will draft Derrick Rose, but the Kyle Lowry bidding war canceled it out.

And good for Steve Schanwald, who won't be taking anyone's shit ever again, but plugging the season ticket hotline was an enormous misstep. Word is Sir Chuckles has been keeping all of the operators busy demanding to meet 'Stan' at the Wynn's craps table.

I'd trade the pick for the right deal. No reason not to. A deal with Miami for Wade might even be possible.

Wade hasn't been hurting like J.O., but enough to be semi-wary of dealing a #1 pick for him, and he's only signed through 2010.

I kinda doubt that Riley is Rose-crazy enough to trade Wade, and if he is, I'd be fully wary.

Yeah, I agree with the wariness, but Wade is or was the type of player for whom you'd want to take a risk like that. Plus, Beasley wouldn't be a bad consolation prize, assuming he doesn't turn out to be Kenyon Martin attitude-wise.

looks like my site blowed up. Oh well.

Sam's off his rocker. Like you said O'Neal for Nocioni/Hughes is as good as it gets. Actually if it only takes a minor asset in addition (i.e., Gordon and Tyrus are not 'throw ins', but Thabo and Gooden could be) it's worth exploring. Even if O'Neal is hurt for 20 games a year, that would just mean more minutes for Thomas and Noah.

bs, if the deal is Wade + #2 for #1, then sure. If it's just Wade for Rose, count me amongst the wary.

I wouldn't trade the #1 for Wade either, but the #1 and anybody from the bulls roster and Hughes for the #2 and Wade is something that you'd have to do.

I am worried about Wade's injuries, I would go with Rose and offer Gordon in every trade scenario possible

I hate the idea of trading Gordon. If the Bulls take Rose, Hinrich is the odd man out, and his contract + teams needing point guards + filler like Nocioni/Sefolosha is a better deal for the Bulls. I'd rather see a mini-SG who can score a lot than an out of position mini-SG who can't.

Not to mention the possibility that in addition to the Bucks' desire to shed Redd's contract, Skiles could be craving some Nocioni and Hinrich.

HSCS, unsurprisingly, I'm in complete agreement on Hinrich/Gordon. I've never understood why some desire to fit the rotation to adjust to Hinrich and not Gordon, when Gordon's better. Especially at SG.

Obviously it hinges on Gordon's salary demands, but heck I'd just call this past season a wash and offer the 5/$50 again.

I guess it wouldn't shock you that I don't agree with either of you then. I'll never understand the infatuation with an undersized scorer who isn't even a very good scorer based on historical averages. It'd be one thing if in addition to being a great shooter, he was an average passer or dribbler, or even an average defender. But to be below average in all of those categories and only average 20 pts/game doesn't strike me as the guy to build around. Maybe if he averaged 25 or 30, but only 20 in starter's minutes isn't that remarkable. But that's just me I guess. If Rose is the guy, I'd rather have guys around him that make his job easier on both ends, like letting him take the easier defensive assignment. But again, that may be faulty logic.

It's more than 20 in starter's minutes (career 21.5 PTS/36 plus he gets to the line better than anyone else), and Gordon is more productive at shooting guard than Hinrich. Flaws, flaws, flaws, but he fills the role better.

Don't overlook that Gordon can take a lot of defensive pressure off of Rose, and Hinrich is still far from ideal as a defensive specialist 2 guard.

Hey, maybe they should move Deng, Nocioni, and Sefolosha for a 4 quarter small forward.

Just to chime in on the earlier notes played in this thread: Wade is not being traded. Period.

I was kind of intrigued by Sam's Hinrich and Nocioni for Marion deal, especially if you could keep Tyrus. Rose, Gordon, Deng, Marion, and Noah as the starting five (with Thabo, Ty, Gooden and (ugh) Hughes rounding out the rotation) would be pretty sweet. Noce and Hinrich for Redd also makes a lot of sense.

I think Ben Gordon should be our primary trade bait. He's a one-trick pony. Gets hot shooting here and there, but that's it. He's gets manhandled on D by bigger 2 guards, and isn't quick enough to guard most PGs. And he's prone to turnovers when he has the rock in his hands.
I think Hinrich would thrive as a 2- it would take the ballhandling pressure off and free him up for more open shots. Plus, he's tough defensively and can guard 1s or 2s.
Rose / Hinrich, with Thabo and Hughes off the bench, is a really solid backcourt

I can't stand JO! Please. God no! Sam is living in a cave these days. JO is yesterdays trash.

Blazers fans may be willing to part with Joe Smith II for Rose. Pax better jump on that.

No to Lamarcus Aldridge. He was one of the top players in a weak draft. (although I wanted Brandon Roy, and man would he be great for us right now) We now have the chance to grab the best player in a draft with at least two likely superstars.

Also, NO to trading the pick for any veteran that makes a bunch of money and is already dealing with injuries... (J.Oneal, D.Wade)

I know Miami wants Rose, because they already have Marion and Haslem. So maybe we draft Rose, and work out a trade to take Marion off their hands. I'm thinking Hinrich, and Tyrus for Marion. I know people love Tyrus around here, but really, the best we can hope for is that he learns to play like Marion, so why not just make that trade. And if we take Rose, then Kirk is a good fit for Miami, and not a good fit for us.

We go into the year with Noah, Gooden, Marion, Deng, Rose, Gorden, Hughes, Thabo, Nocioni, Gray...

That's a pretty damn good team. It's a team that would be built to win now & later.

It would be even better if we could find a way to unload the contracts of Hughes and Nocioni. Plus we should still try to sign&trade Ben Gordon for a better fit for out roster, like a taller two, or maybe a solid center, since we lack depth there.
