Aldridge Still Doesn't Impress Me As Much As A Fancy Veektor Interior Pass

I generally like bellyaching over John Paxson's decisions (the Nocioni 400 year contract in particular), but those who have made the Aldridge for Thomas/Khryapa trade out to be a mistake have always bothered me. Checking in on message board threads, bloggings, and internet columns that broach the subject is as much as fun as reading RideAccidents.com.

Despite all the big scoring efforts, LaMarcus Aldridge hasn't been a very effective player in 2007-08. He has a negatory +/- rating this season, an awfully odd place for a big man who scores 20+ PTS/40 with a 19.76 PER. I'm not Dave Berri, but there's plenty of value in rebounding, something Aldridge could be conservatively labeled as sucky at. Notoriously not so good rebounders like Channing Frye, and Raef LaFrentz both have better REB-r than Aldridge this season. For the round number box score watchers (10 rebounds! 10!), Aldridge is averaging 8.7 REB/40. Eat your heart out, Eddy Curry, and Andres Nocioni.

Don't forget the injury history.

Didn't he have a heart problem last year? and plantar fasciitis (sp) this yr.

Also he's gotta be 23-24 yrs old, TT is only 20-21.

wow... good luck with this. aldrige's potential is unlimited (maybe you mised the 36 he dropped on utah in a game that didn't feature him as the first option) and in surprisingly short minutes puts up 18 and 7 just 2 months into his 2nd year.

he's 22. Born: Jul 19, 1985

36? I thought it was a legit 20-10.

Thomas is a year younger, and that counts for something. Not much, but something.

The heart problem? Fully corrected Wolfe Parkinsons White. He was held out for the very end of last season as a precaution.

Lamarcus is a whole one year older than Tyrus. His shot is money from just inside the three-point line and he's got a very effective turnaround jumper and baby hook he's been showing off lately. He can finish inside and runs the floor very well.

If Paxson was offered Aldridge for Thomas straight up, what would he say? You can be pretty sure what Pritchard would say.

I'm not saying Tyrus doesn't have a shot at being a good player, but I'd take an athletic 6'11" 4/5, averaging over 18 and 7 in his second year in the L at 22 over another athletic 3/4.

Oh I completely agree!
Why would the bulls want Aldridge's averages at PF when the bulls best PF is Joe Smith is averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Or the guy they traded for who averages 6.1 and 4.7 while shooting an outstanding .423fg and .653ft... oh and has already been in trouble with the league and team on multiple occasions for his bad attitude.

Aldridge is better than Chicago's 2 best PF's put together and he is a great guy.

Another positive side note is you get all that for only 3.5 million more a year.

Next your going to tell me Boston got the better of the Brandon Roy / Theo Ratliff deal. They wouldn't even need Allen and his creaky knees and monstrous contract right now.

Ainge and Paxon both got Pritch-slapped...

I strongly dislike Sean Meagher even though I should feel sorry for people who don't know how to count.

Roland rating? Please. What about efficiency ratings? What about statistics that aren't made up amalgamates?

Tyrus Thomas:

PPG 6.1
RPG 4.70
APG 1.2
EFF + 8.36

LaMarcus Aldridge:

PPG 18.1
RPG 7.30
APG 1.1
EFF + 18.44

Wow. This is a tough one. Chicago got Pritch slapped. Deal.

I really couldn't tell you the worst thing about your literary slander/retardedness (for the sake of your argument thats a word). I mean the mere fact someone agreed with you makes me sad for the windy city in itself. And did you actually accept some type of monetary contribution for that piece? I mean you can write whatever you want, but if you weren't drinking off brand scotch when you wrote that then you really need to adhere to some sense of ethics. I mean I'd like to say we got a sweet deal picking Sam Bowie, but lying to myself doesn't make me feel any better and it shouldn't make you feel any better either, saying Thomas is even in the same league as Aldridge is insane.

Well in that case, enjoy your Tyrus Thomas!

Thanks,
Blazer Fan.

Lol, the same +/- rating you use to say LA is no good shows Josh McRoberts to be the best Blazer on the team, and Raef LaFrentz to be significantly better than LA, while also including the critical-to-success Pryzbilla and Blake in the worst 5 on the team. Completely flawed methodology. LA's rating is low simply because he was out during part of the win streak.

Welcome, Portland fans. Any chance you'd like Ben Wallace on your team?

Yes, keep making fun of Joe Smith, since that is exactly what LA is. Same player, only we have the much older version. Joe had a nice career, but when looking at a player like TT, whom has a much high ceiling, why wouldnt you rather take him. The Bulls didnt need a player like LA, they needed a difference maker which TT could be, but needs to actually play to do that.

"(maybe you mised the 36 he dropped on utah in a game that didn't feature him as the first option)"

Yeah, he also had a whopping 3 rebounds that game.

Don't get me wrong, great player, the Bulls could def. use him, but I'm pretty sure even Eddy Curry could grab 4 rebounds in a game.

The difference he makes in throwing a towel to Hinrich, or getting big ben a cup of water. Thomas is so overrated and such a stretch at 4 its ridiculous. Im glad the bulls are happy with him.

From last night:

LaMarcus Aldridge:

Min: 44
Pts: 14
Reb: 13
Asst: 2
Blocks: 1

Tyrus Thomas:

Min: 3
Pts: 2
Reb: 1
Asst: 0
Blocks: 0

Oh yeah, I'd take Thomas any day over Aldridge.

Tool.

At least Aldridge grabbed 3 rebounds against Utah...Thomas barely managed 3 MINUTES.

Wow. These anonymous Portland fans are pretty rabid. Who knew?

You guys can say all you want about how bad LMA is and how he is just a young Joe Smith. I understand you are trying anything to validate this trade. I just hope you guys are happy with the new version of everyone's favorite draft bust.....Stromile Swift. Million dollar althlete without a clue how to use it. Enjoy it Chicago!

Not all of us are rabid, we just really enjoy the direction our teams heading. Do you enjoy yours? But it's pretty well known that that Paxson, was Pritch Slapped. Don't feel to bad, he's done it to others as well. Also, don't remember one comment from the TNT guys even mentioning TT, that's how well known his game is.

I do remember LMA dropping 18 footers...in the 4th quarter...while TT looked on with a fat lip. I also remember seeing the youngest team in the league come into your house, eat some of your food, and take a crap on your front porch.
