Something You Probably Already Know

Because it was already on True Hoop: Joakim Noah is the rookie PER leader. Something you don't want to know: Joakim Noah leads the Bulls in PER with a 17.59. Notice the difference between Knickerblogger's numbers, and ESPN's? Yeah, I can't explain that.

Less PERty than the last factoid: Noah isn't replacing Ben Wallace anytime soon. He's been playing much better at power forward than center. I'll let that slide, and blame it on Skiles' matchup logic for now.

And then you see TT's PER at center.

And then you cry.

And then, after wiping away your tears, you look at TT's 5-man units and notice he hasn't played with Noah for one minute.

And then something wells up from deep within you and you begin to sob, again. Uncontrolably. Unconsolably.

I'm only asking for Noah to replace Joe Smith at center.

Actually, if you delve into Noah's five-man units, it gets pretty interesting. The +/- of the units with him at center is great, much better than any of the units with him at PF.

Being kind of an idiot about how PER is calculated, I'm just going to guess that it weighs heavily toward turnovers, because it's the units with Noah at PF along with Wallace that have a ridiculously high positive TO differential. I'm guessing that unit has Noah more on the perimeter than in the post, which (just going from memory) is where I think he turns the ball over fairly often.
