4-11 Against the Rest of the League

...but 2-0 against Detroit.

Is it perverse of me that I almost prefer this to being 11-6, with two Ls against the Motown Boys?

Yes. It is perverse. Rivalries are lame, and only the fans really care. And Rip Hamilton.

Nope, but I did take Sports Leadership, and a few other for funzies only sports business classes in my final semester. I'm guided by a textbook, and a few former pro athletes on this one. Total third party experience. I'd wager there are plenty of players in the NBA, NHL, and MLB who occasionally have no idea who they're playing until they get to the arena. Just like forgetting about a meeting, quiz, paper, etc.

My point was, I'm a fan (as I think you are) and thus, denigrating something by saying "only the fans really care" is, uh, also perverse.

Sorry. Only the fans really care.

Even if you're sold on the idea of players playing harder, and games meaning something more, Detroit/Chicago is one of the weakest sports rivalries out there. There isn't much history, short of the late 80's, and early 90's playoff matchups. The sweep pretty much silenced the so-called rivalry until Wallace signed with the Bulls.

Who wasn't (besides Lakers fans) rooting for Detroit in the 2004 Finals?

As long as I'm arguing 2 things at once:

Kansas-Missouri goes back to the jayhawkers and bushwhackers. That's a rivalry.

Whaaaaa?

Jordan vs. the Pistons is pretty big for a Bulls fan.

Sure it's no Bobcats versus Hornets or Golden State versus Sacramento or Milwaukee versus Minnesota ...

Oh, and yes taking it to the Pistons twice does make the overall record go down a little sweeter.
